Rocking Chair

This assignment began with a mock contract from a luxury hotel chain; this was to design and prototype a soft chair to be used in multiple environments, the hotel lobby, bar/lounge, and suites.

 

This is a minimalist rocking chair made for the lounge and suit environments of a hotel. The main structure of the chair is made from black walnut. The frame is held together with domino connectors and the profiles were routed to size with a CNC template. The upholstered seat is made from a plywood frame tensioned with webbing. On top of the webbing there is a layer of 2" medium density foam, batting, muslin, and the final fabric. The upholstery is attached to the main frame with bolts and threaded inserts.
